This past weekend was the greatest weekend of 2015. No I didn’t get married or attend any spectacular celebration. I just prayed with 2 of my sisters.
Prayed? Seriously Chrissy? And that’s what you mean by best weekend of the year? Yup!
We prayed all weekend. I work from home on Fridays so on Thursday, I attended my first All-night (12am-5am) prayer meeting in ages. I was so glad I did because in doing so, my tongue vocabulary increased, prophesies were shared, and I was able to really hear God’s voice. Then on Friday, I went to my church’s usual Friday night service. Surprisingly, I was so blessed by the man of God who preached that I stayed in high spirits even while driving back home. My two sisters decided to spend the weekend at my house after church; and that’s how this unplanned prayerful weekend began…
Most know I sleep every and anywhere. So Friday night, as my sisters shared testimonies to each other on my bed, I slept peacefully beside them. Routinely, I woke up at 5am and to my surprise that my girls were still talking. They advised me that although tired, they were being moved to pray. At first apprehensive because of my tiredness, I eventually agreed to pray with them. It took all but 2 minutes for the atmosphere to change and the Holy Spirit to fill our presence. MY ROOM was on Holy Ghost Fire!
We’re not used to leading a prayer group, so we wrote down several prayer topics to cover. I decided to lead the prayer topics as we were praying, and can I just tell you these topics came with ease.
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. [Romans 8:26]
For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist. [Luke 21:15]
For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say. [Luke 12: 12]
As I was lifting up prayer topics for us to pray for, I was amazed at how I was able to quote scripture out of memory and think of serious things to pray for. After an hour of prayer, I left to go and take my mother to work. But when I returned, I found my sisters studying the Word and praying. I had to take this picture because these girls were running on no sleep! At least, I slept for about 5 hours prior to praying. LOL.
Saturday was dedicated as a day of prayer, my sisters followed me to an appointment in Jersey and then back to the city to clean the church. AGAIN! Praying all day, and in the sanctuary; and this time both my sisters lead and lifted up prayer topics. If you know anything about my sisters, you know that they appear to be very timid. But thank God there’s no timidity or fear in Jesus Christ. Caresse knows the Word and Krystyl is a true prayer warrior. And these gifts were all manifested this weekend.
I wanted to share this post with you to encourage you to trust God to speak to and through you. If you want to speak to a friend, you may pick up your phone and dial his/her number to hear their voice. Similarly, if you want to speak to God, you must pray! BUT, if God wants to speak to you, He’ll speak to you. His voice is pervasive, meaning it can reach all heights and flow through any valley. God doesn’t need permission to move, speak, or act. He does as He pleases.
When we want to hear the voice of God, many of us attend church on Sundays to listen to our pastors. We may call on our Christian brothers and sisters and ask for advice. We might even ask our parents. But how often do we trust God to speak directly to us? Or is it that we lack the faith? The bible says “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing the Word of God” [Romans 10:17] Have you ever studied how babies will stop crying at the sound of their parents’ voice? We naturally understand it because we know that babies have been hearing the voice of their parents since in the womb. But why is that we don’t understand the same for our Father in Heaven?
A question I always asked in the past was, “How do you know its God speaking to you?” Well, the answer is the same way I know my earthly parents’ voice. I’ve spent so much time with them, I’ve become familiar to it. When we spend time with God through studying the Bible and praying, we too, will come to know His voice. Set the atmosphere by staying in the spirit, and watch how His voice permeates the atmosphere. The next time you want a word from God, ask that He speaks directly to YOU! Spend quiet time with Him, pray with friends or family. If you do it often, you’ll come to love being in His presence and communicating with Him; and His voice will be easily recognizable.
God bless you.
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. [Matthew 18:20]
