Testimony Tuesday: Be Kind to Strangers

Just because you don’t know them doesn’t mean they don’t know you.

Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been taking public transportation quite a bit. Public transportation isn’t my norm- I generally drive everywhere; but driving, as you may know can become quite draining. Besides, navigating around NYC is usually best via public transportation. In any event, commuting around the city has been a lovely experience- not so much in the actual commute, but really in the people I meet and interact with. Not to toot my own horn, but I’ve come to learn that quite a few people know of me because of my blog. And while I don’t aspire for such fame, it is always a joy meeting and speaking with you all!

I make it my duty to always formally introduce myself, and/or follow all of my readers back on social media. I take the stance that if you support me, the I’d also love to support you. This year alone, I’ve met quite a few of you and I just want to say thanks again if you’re reading this. Thank you for the support, thank you for the love, thank you for the prayers, as I know some of you pray for me.

Two weeks ago, while on the train heading to Soho, I met one of the creative designers of Allen & Fifth. It was such a pleasure meeting and talking with her as I had collaborated with Allen & Fifth in the past: Here and Here. We discussed everything from business to our own personal experience meeting other social media influencers. Our convo got me to thinking about being courteous and respectful everywhere. Just because you do not know someone doesn’t mean they don’t know you. It isn’t everyone who is familiar with you that will say hello. I used to receive messages from readers saying “I saw you earlier today!” And it used to frighten me, because what if I was behaving in a way contrary to how I portray myself on the blog?

My challenge to you this Tuesday morning is to be kind and courteous to everyone. What does it matter if you look nice on social media but have an ugly personality? After all, I am just taking pictures. It doesn’t make me greater or less than anyone.
