Hi guys! So I took full advantage of my day off from work due to MLK day! I spent the whole day upstate  in Ossining, NY at my photographers’ family home.  I brought my fave sneakers at the moment (my New Balance “highlighters”) as a subsititue for my very comfy Lanvin heels. For some very strange reason, these sneakers go perfectly with every outfit I wear! I seriously recommend these sneakers. As a retired track athlete, with shin splints and inflammation in my calves, it’s really hard to wear flats or shoes without sole support but these extremely affordable new balances make me feel like I’m walking in thin air!

Stay warm & blessed!

This year, I’ll be investing in more quality, classic pieces and leaving the trendier pieces aside. My outfit above can be easily copied. As basic as it appears, I think the chunky necklace gives it a nice edge. My lovely Auntie in London actually gave this to me when I visited her. However, you may find comparisons at any local boutique. Don’t be afraid to shop discount stores (99 cent stores/ Pound Shops). While quality isn’t the greatest, some of their costume jewelry are super fun & cute!

Sunday’s Best: Color Blocking

Happy Sunday! Here’s my takeaway from today’s sermon: “How much is your life worth?” The story of Joseph being sold by his brothers for 20 pieces of silver (found in Genesis in the Bible) can bring much revelation to your life. Although his brothers sold him for 20 pieces of silver, God had a different plan for his life. Had he not been sold, he wouldn’t have been 2nd-in-command in Egypt. I challenge you today to dig deep into that uncomfortable situation you may be in. No more complaining! Do you know how much your life is worth? Whether you believe it or not, your life has been redeemed with the precious blood of Jesus! God will surely bring the beauty out of your uncomfortable situation. Just have faith!

So one month into Zara’s semi-annual sale & they’re still marking down items! I purchased this striped skirt on Black Friday but couldn’t seem to figure out how I wanted to style it. Well, thanks to Skinny Hipster, I went & purchased this top from Zara yesterday, which was also on SALE! I paired it with one of my favorite shoes at the moment- these gold Giuseppe pumps. The beauty about metallic pumps is that they go with pretty much everything- a true staple piece. They make basic outfits look spectacular. Seeing as though this is my first time wearing these shoes, they were extremely uncomfortable, as they weren’t broken into yet. But who cares when you have on Giuseppes! 😉

Glad its Plaid

Plaid Suit (Blazer & Pants): Banana Republic (Blazer Here) // Plaid Blouse: Forever 21 (Similar Here & Here )// Shoes: Zara (Sold out) //Bag: Gucci (Old)

If I told you the struggle I went through to get this plaid suit, you wouldn’t believe me… So during one of my spontaneous Fifth Avenue splurges, I felt the need to purchase an abundance of plaid pieces. Okay- maybe just four but you get the picture (& don’t believe the hype about Fifth Avenue. While you’ll find Bergdorf Goodman, Fendi, Louis Vuitton & Cartier located here, there’s still H&M, Zara Flagship, & Abercrombie & Fitch ). I have been yearning for a plaid suit since I laid my eyes on Andy’s plaid suit (Check out her wonderful blog Here). So I started my journey at Zara’s flagship store on Fifth Avenue and of course the suit was sold out, being that it was an old season look. I settled for their plaid skort- which I’ll post sometime soon. Then I made my way down towards 57th & 5ave, stopping in every store that may potentially carry the suit. Just when I was about to give up & go home, becuase I spent more than enough money on foolishness, I saw the plaid pants on a manican in Tommy Hilfiger. WELL!  If ya ever been to TH on 5th avenue, then you know how overwhelming that store is. There’s about 4+ floors- none carrying the suit I was searching high & low for.  I wasn’t pleased; I walked out of the store with my head down. As I reached to grap pull the front door, a sales associate says “Just so you know, I saw a really cute green & blue plaid suit at Banana Republic just yesterday.” To make a long story medium <– lol, I bought the suit at Banana Republic at 50% (family & friends coupon). If the suit is still available, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND trying it on before purchasing. If you’re petite- definitely buy petite. You won’t want to chance the regular sizes. The pants run really weird in regular sizes- at least for my short muscular legs.

So here’s how I wore the suit to work. If you’re in the corporate world, you know how limited you are when dressing for work. I could have easily worn the plaid suit with the plaid blouse as shown above, but I wanted to be on the safe side so I paired the suit with a white chiffon blouse. I thought the strappy Zara heels were way too trendy for work so I swapped them for these oxblood patent-leather court shoes. Ivanka Trump makes among the most comfortable leather & patent leather heels! Just pure quality at affordable prices! Auntie highly recommends investing in a pair. Many department stores (Burlington Coat Factory, Macy’s, Nordstrom, Century 21) carry them.
